Turning an energy project into ESG data
From kWh produced to a documented figure in a sustainability report.

A solar project or fleet conversion doesn't end at switch-on. Its full value appears when it turns into documented data that enters sustainability reports and answers buyers' and partners' questions. This is the journey from project to number.
1. Measure from day one
The most important decision is made before operation: how will the system's production be measured? Modern monitoring systems record production daily and monthly. Make sure your contract with the delivery partner includes documented monitoring, not just a display screen.
In fleet projects: actual kilometres driven and electricity consumption are the equivalents of the old fuel records.
2. Convert to avoided emissions
The second step is converting production into emissions:
Avoided emissions = energy produced (or displaced) × the grid emission factor
Our tools use a factor of 0.483 kg CO₂ per kWh, per the IFI Harmonized Grid Emission Factors, v2.0 (2019), combined margin for solar, Egypt. In formal reports, always use the latest recognised factor and state its source explicitly.
3. Documentation: the number alone is not enough
Any figure in a sustainability report needs three things around it:
- Methodology: how was it calculated? Which factor was used and why?
- Period: what time period does the figure cover?
- Source: where did the raw data come from? (Monitoring system, bills, records)
4. Include it in the report
- Solar production appears as a reduction in Scope 2 emissions.
- Fleet electrification appears as a reduction in Scope 1, with a partial increase in Scope 2 calculated from charging electricity.
- Present figures annually and compare them against the pre-project baseline.
5. Continuous improvement
Documented data is not only for reports: an unexpected drop in production reveals a maintenance issue early, and comparing sites with each other guides the next expansion decision.
In short
Design measurement into the project from the start, document the methodology, and every clean-energy project automatically turns into ready ESG data. The Emissions Estimator on our site gives you a quick indicative estimate of your project's impact before you begin.
