When is solar the best case for your factory?

Three signals that make an industrial solar project more viable.

Business4 min read

Not all facilities are equal when it comes to solar. Some situations make a project clearly more viable than others. These three signals suggest your factory or facility is in a good position.

1. Your main loads are daytime loads

Solar produces only during the day. The more of your consumption falls in daylight hours — a morning shift, production lines running by day, cooling during working hours — the more of the solar production you consume directly, without storage. Facilities running a day shift or two shifts are usually the clearest cases.

If most of your consumption is at night, the project is still possible but needs a closer study of the grid-connection path and compensation.

2. You have usable roof space or car-park canopies

Factories and warehouses usually enjoy wide roofs — a real advantage. But the question is not just area; it is the roof's condition: its type, structural capacity, and freedom from shading and obstructions. Car-park canopies are an additional, often overlooked area.

The technical survey determines how many kilowatts can actually be installed — not the total area on paper.

3. Your commercial bill sits in the higher tiers

Commercial and industrial tariffs are high and tend to rise with periodic tariff reviews. The higher the tier you are billed at, the greater the value of every kWh you produce yourself instead of buying from the grid.

Signs that need a closer look

  • Mostly night-time consumption (continuous cooling or 24-hour operation): the project is possible, but its design is different.
  • A rented roof or unclear ownership: needs legal arrangements before the technical ones.
  • Loads highly sensitive to power quality: need a protection study and coordination with the grid.

The first step

Don't start with a price quote — start with an energy audit: 12 months of bills, a load profile, and a roof inspection. Our Business Readiness Check gives you, in minutes, an initial picture of your position and the right next steps.
