Fleet electrification: where to start?
The first steps to studying your fleet's switch to electric, by the numbers.

Switching a company fleet to electric vehicles is a big decision, and the most common mistake is starting by choosing the cars. The right starting point is the numbers: how your fleet moves today, where it parks, and how much it consumes. The whole study is built on these numbers.
Step 1: Gather your current movement data
Before any calculation, you need a clear picture of your current fleet:
- Vehicle count and types: passenger cars, vans, light trucks — each type has different electric alternatives.
- Daily kilometres per vehicle: the most important number in the study, because it sets the required range and battery size.
- Where vehicles park at night: at the company depot? With drivers? This determines where chargers go.
- Current fuel consumption: from actual fuel bills, not estimates.
Step 2: Identify the first candidates for switching
The whole fleet doesn't have to switch at once. The best vehicles to start with are those that:
- Cover predictable, repeatable daily distances within the range of available electric vehicles.
- Return every night to a fixed location where a charger can be installed.
- Are due for replacement soon anyway in the fleet cycle.
Starting with a clear first group gives you real experience with your own numbers before scaling up.
Step 3: Design the charging before the cars
The charger is not an accessory — it is half the project. The core design questions:
- How many vehicles need to charge at the same time?
- Is charging overnight at the depot, or during daytime stops?
- Can the current meter and supply handle the load, or does the site need an upgrade?
- Can the building roof or parking canopies produce part of the charging electricity from the sun?
Step 4: Calculate the full picture
A good study compares the current situation with the proposed one in numbers: energy consumption, electricity cost versus fuel, and charging needs. All results remain indicative estimates that depend on your actual data and current tariffs — which is why the study starts from your bills and your numbers, not general averages.
How we help
Our fleet study starts from your numbers: we review movement and fuel data, identify the first candidates, and design the charging path with approved partners. Request a fleet study from the Mobility page and the team will get in touch.
